Zinge Afrika
Catherine Wanjohi
I design and sell handcrafted clothing, accessories, jewellery, bags, and sandals under Zinge Afrika. Inspired by African culture, each piece is ethically made, sustainable, and customisable to reflect personal style.

I’m Cathy, the founder of Zinge Afrika, a premium, purpose driven brand rooted in African heritage and craftsmanship. Born in Mount Kenya, I’ve spent many years developing my skills in fashion design and traditional artistry. My designs are often described as vibrant, sophisticated, bold, and deeply appealing.

In 2016, I founded Zinge Afrika in Ballito, South Africa with a mission to create an authentic brand that not only showcases African creativity but also provides meaningful growth and opportunities for local artisans and stakeholders. My vision has always been to build a fashion label for the future of Africa — one that is ethical, sustainable, and community focused.

In 2018, I was honoured to win Best Designer at the Ballito Pro under the theme “Retro Fashion” and was also a finalist for the Ilembe Chambers of Commerce’s Entrepreneur Award the same year.

As a fashion designer, wife, and mother of three, I am passionate about infusing African craftsmanship with European design. I believe fashion should be personal, empowering, and accessible. That’s why I craft bespoke pieces that celebrate individuality while saving my clients time and stress — especially those who find shopping for the perfect fit overwhelming.

I’m also known for my African wedding designs, having created many unique traditional bridal party looks and custom white wedding gowns that honour culture and elegance.

At Zinge Afrika, our products are ethically made, sustainably sourced, and inspired by traditional African artistry. Every item tells a story, supports a community, and reflects my belief that sustainable fashion should maximise benefits for people while minimising impact on the environment.

My superpower is using fashion as a form of empowerment and self-expression. I have a gift for creating custom pieces that bring out people’s personalities and make them feel confident, seen, and celebrated. I combine traditional African craftsmanship with modern design to tell meaningful stories through clothing. Whether it’s a bold print, a bespoke wedding outfit, or a detail-rich accessory — I turn culture and creativity into wearable confidence.
I love Fempreneurs as it provides great exposure to a fast online population thereby leading to more sales and brand awareness.
