Founded in 2018 in Mitchell’s Plain, Design26 Foundation addresses youth unemployment by offering accredited sewing programmes. The aim is to equip young women with practical skills while building a pipeline of talent for Cape Town’s clothing and manufacturing industry.
Disposing of textile waste has been a big problem for a long time. Textile waste covers a wide variety of fibers including natural and synthetic. It is estimated that around 92 million tons of clothing waste are thrown out every year globally. Most of the portion goes in the landfills.
Design26 Foundation are addressing textile waste as an environmental imperative. As we navigate the challenges of a rapidly changing world, we recognize the significance of sustainable practices in the textile industry. By adopting circular economy principles, implementing innovative recycling technologies and fostering a culture of conscious consumption, Design26 Foundation are reducing our environmental footprint where we increasingly prioritize ethical and sustainable choices.
